Peterborough is located in south central Ontario about 3 hours west of Ottawa and 1 1/2 hours northeast of Toronto in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes tourist district.

The city is surrounded by many lakes, rivers and streams making it a very popular tourist destination which hosts thousands of cottages and many resorts for year around recreational activities. The city, and these lakes and rivers, are integral parts of the Trent Severn waterway which allows boaters to travel from Trenton Ontario on the north shore of Lake Ontario to Port Severn on the east coast of Georgian Bay without having to traverse the Welland canal, Lake Erie, the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair and lake Huron.

Within a 30 minute drive of the city of Peterborough one will find Rice Lake, Trent River, Stoney Lake, Clear Lake, Lovesick Lake, Lower Buckhorn Lake, Buckhorn Lake, Sandy Lake, Chemong Lake, Big Bald Lake, Little Bald Lake, Pidgeon Lake, the Otonabee River and more.

There is a mix of agricultural land surrounding the City of Peterborough. Our agricultural community is diverse and one can find many types of livestock and crops produced here.

The city itself is home to a moderately sized manufacturing base with a large and diverse retail and service sector. It boasts a university, community college and both Public and Catholic school boards. It's attractions include the Lift Locks, the Centenial Fountain, the Centenial Museum, Little Lake, the Peterborough Art Museum and more.
